After all the trouble, I was surprised to find my brand new passport in the mail following my trip. In half the projected time! Holy more-efficient-than-expected-government. And, as hoped, I didn't get an e-passport. It's the good old-fashioned kind, so not as susceptible to digital fraud.

I'm SO glad I acted when I did. Per this article (PDF), I only made the cut-off by something like a week. Whew!
